Latvia

I'm sorry I'm sorry it's been so long. I think this might actually constitute the longest period of inactivity in the entire life of grenobleWMD. Life is hard though, you know, and I seem to always be busy mainly with worrying about forms and taxes and also work. After my extended period of being MIA, before starting a post I decided to take a look at the old blog stats to you know, find out who's been reading the blog and what not. Well, over the past month, guess which country has accessed this very blog the most number of times? Canada? Did you say Canada? Sorry! That is the wrong answer. If we had been playing this game in any other month in this blog's history you would have been correct and you might have won a prize. Unfortunately for you, however, we are in THIS month and the answer is NOT Canada. Want to try again? Ok, France? Well, I admit that's a pretty good guess after Canada but it's not right either. I'll give you one more chance. Germany? Well, that's funny that you guess Germany because -- although it's wrong -- it did register more than 20 hits this month coming in at third place behind Canada who is sitting pretty in second with 34 hits. Ok, so you didn't get it. Therefore I'll just tell you: it is the lovely Republic of Latvia with a whopping 50+ hits. Since this anonymous Latvian seems to be very interested in this blog, he or she is most probably reading this very post and thinking either (a) Neat! He noticed me!; or (b) What!? I didn't know that people could tell when I visit their websites! This could cause some serious problems for me!. Well Mr. (or Mrs.) Latvian, sorry about that, but that's the way of the world my friend.

So since last time what has happened? Well, I went to Delft and it was fine. We took the train to de Hague by accident and it seemed nice. There are canals and it was very very Dutch feeling. The summer arrived. All this week it's been hot and sunny and yesterday even reached 29 degrees but then a cold front moved in today and for our marathon this weekend it's supposed to be a high of just 9 degrees on Sunday and of course in the morning when we run it will be even colder so this could pose some problems for my planned marathon attire! Oh no! Sandi has been sick as per usual and though I've been able to fight it off normally of course this time with the big race this weekend I got sick. Ugh. RIGHT before the marathon.. Like literally less than 48 hours away. This sounds like a Pemulis story almost.

We bought train tickets to Barcelona and we'll be going for a week! We leave 2 weeks from tomorrow and it is (hopefully) going to be awesome. After that our good friends KJ will arrive. And only a few weeks till Ryder defends his title in the Giro. May will be a month full of excitement in France! (even though the Giro is in Italy and we're vacationing in Spain and I'll also be going to Munich for a few days). Which reminds me (using the word vacationing) that I was trying to explain to someone a while ago how annoying it was that sports announcers are always inventing stupid new verbs like for example "medaling". He medaled in this event he is going to medal in that event he is medaling right now! And I was all like it's so stupid but no one agreed with me and they were saying that it's great to be flexible with language and medaling is a perfectly acceptable verb. So I'm not friends with those people anymore.

Apparently Sandi spilled the beans as it were to her mama that we just might potentially just maybe want to stay in France for a little while longer so I guess I can feel free to just ramble on a little bit about that now. It is indeed what we would like to do because 18 months will be over in LITERALLY 2 SECONDS (note that this is a proper use of the word literally as of recent addenda to the English dictionary -- literally). You will be happy to hear that it's not a very likely occurrence unfortunately (for us) for a multitude of complex reasons but we'll just sum it up with an easy excuse: the economy. So if that doesn't work out we may instead just give up on life (not literally) altogether and live as 30-something bums in our parents' basements (we could rotate bi-weekly between basements, for example). The problem with that plan is that it would be difficult to continue improving our French and it would get expensive (for our parents) to keep importing French food for us to keep feeding the addiction. Well I guess that's all I really have to say about that right now.. Essentially we don't really have anything in the way of real prospects but to be fair I haven't been looking too hard yet either. The problem is it's difficult to leave anything like that too late because we have to give notice (3 months I believe) on our apartment and to go anywhere far (like Canada for example) we would have to set up a whole thing with shipping all of our stuff. We'd also have to fly with our bikes AGAIN and I really don't want to have to do that again for at least 5 years (or by then maybe we could sell them and buy more expensive ones after saving up our weekly allowances from said-parents over a few weeks [months?]).

Well I guess that's it for now. If you're interested you should probably be able to see results by the time you wake up Sunday morning (except for you Mr./Mrs. Latvia -- you'll have to wait till lunch time) and they should be on the website http://www.marathondulac-annecy.com !!!
